Winter Garden

South Texas Ag Research has been in operation
at Uvalde, Texas since 1989. Uvalde is the center
of the Texas production area called Wintergarden.
Our land assets include 122 acres of company-
owned land, plus land leased for off-site experiments.

An important peanut and potato producing area is
50 miles southeast of Uvalde, near the towns of
Pearsall and Devine. Approximately 40% of our
trials are replicated small plot efficacy trials. We
have consistently heavy lepidopterous insect
pressure in cotton and in cole crops. We also have
very heavy whitefly pressure in cucurbits, cole crops
and cotton. In recent years, we have had consistently heavy carmine mite pressure in cotton.

The remainder of our trials determine residue levels of
pesticides in crops.

We also perform other types of residue trials, such
as worker protection trials, soil dissipation trials,
and dislodgeable foliar residue trials. Although our farm is
located in EPA Region 6, EPA has given us written
permission to also conduct trials designated for EPA
Region 8.  Please contact us with any questions at
